Thanksgiving Is Over, Now What?

Thanksgiving is over, now what?

Thanksgiving is now over and you may feel exhausted, full and happy at the same time.

When the celebration is over and everything is washed, cleaned and tidied up, make yourself a cup of tea/coffee or hot chocolate and take some time to reflect on it.

Grab your notebook or paper and some pens, or your screen in front to take notes. Whichever is easier for you.

Now is the perfect time to declutter your mind of all things Thanksgiving. Clear it for the next holiday which is now only a few short weeks away.

Thanksgiving is different for everyone, some go all out and celebrate in style and others like to keep it low key.

However you spent your holiday I hope that you got to enjoy some or all of it.

Thanksgiving made easy

The first step after Thanksgiving

This can be so much fun as you only have to write down or list all the things that annoyed you this year. No, that doesn’t mean writing a 20 page essay, just the points. Eg forgot the important spices or invited too many people over. Left the cooking too late or whatever happened.

This can be both therapeutic and fun at the same time. Just let it go!

While doing this the next step is to jot down what worked for you and the things you are really grateful for. This could be simple things having your shopping list complete and ready the day before the event which meant you had things covered. Nice! Or maybe it was only inviting those people who you wanted to and not everyone for the sake of it. Maybe you turned down an invite and enjoyed some time with friends instead.

This is all about making your life easier and less stressful and yes it is about you. If you are hosting parties or responsible for other people and family members then you need to be organised and any tips that make it simpler is a win.

Did you host a Thanksgiving Party?

  • Write down what you forgot this year.

  • Did anyone bring something that you didn’t think of but was so useful.

  • Forget something that was vital.

  • Long distance travel can be complicated at this time of year and expensive.

  • Make too much of something that no one really enjoyed.

  • Anything that you wished you would have done earlier or different and why.

  • Was there something that an overnight guest brought along for their stay with you that you thought was genius. Write it down for future reference.

How this can help you

Thanksgiving was very late this year and just before Christmas, this can be used to your advantage though. Did you hear from someone who mentioned they wished they had eg a new gravy dish or special napkins or did you notice yourself that there was something missing.

Well why not use this as an incentive to browse the sales and see if you can find the items and purchase them. Perfect Christmas gifts for those special people in your life.

I am of course writing this with good intentions in mind. Not suggesting to buy things to offend the host or other people. Unless you have a good and solid relationship with them and you all understand the same humour.

Now what to do with your list?

This will now help you to be prepared for Thanksgiving next year. Understanding more about yourself and what makes you happy and relaxed is a wonderful thing.

It allows you time to plan ahead. If you don’t want to host a party anymore and the family doesn’t listen, why not plan a holiday at that time.

If you want to host for the first time or continue to host the Thanksgiving party then your list will help you be more organised and know what you need to do and buy earlier on. Don’t leave things to the last minute and have to pay higher prices and lose time and energy trying to get the things done.

You need to enjoy the time with family and friends too.
