How do you find out what the best organisation method is?
Organization begins with awareness of what doesn’t work for us.
Don’t fall into the trap of comparing yourself to others and think they have it all. They seem to be able to do everything and stay on top of it all. You never know how they really are leading their lives. They only show you what they want to be exposed not how their lives really are like.
You can see some celebrity or so called famous person who claims to have it all sussed. It seems as if they are organised and on top of everything. They have the perfect home and perfect family. They may run their own business or whatever and seem organised to a tee.
Are they though? We will never really know. They may think they are or like to portray that they are and that is fine if they are happy with their lives. That is the main thing. They have found the methods or lifestyle that works for them and their family. Good for them. Long may it last.
Does every organisation style work for everyone?
That does not mean it can work for every other person out there. We are all different people in our own way. Everyone is living in different situations or seasons of our lives. We all know that our lives have changed over the years and we have had to adapt to them all. From being children to teenagers to students to adulthood. Parenthood changes over time from having small children in the home to teenagers and young adults.
We are bombarded with the latest trends on a seemingly daily basis. A new lifestyle or organising method. Whatever the trend states. They may be fascinating and often intriguing but being honest with yourself how many of them have you thought “hmmm yes I could incorporate that into my life easily” or has it been more “what on earth is going on? That is so unrealistic!”
It is time to be honest with yourself. Not with anyone else. Trying a new organising method is a great way of finding out what it is like and if it works for you. If you get frustrated and annoyed then you know it is not for you. That is a win in itself as you are closer to finding out what does work for you. Can you adapt the method in some way to your own style. If not then just move. Who cares if social media is trying to tell you that everyone else is doing it. If it is working for them that is ok. It does not mean it is suitable for everyone.
What if an organisation method doesn't work for me?
Take a deep breath in and hold. Breathe out slowly and think good for them if it works for them.
We are all different and a method that works for someone else may not work for you. It may not even make sense to you at all.
That doesn’t mean you are right and they are wrong. Or even the other way around. It just means good for them if they have found a way of staying organised and on top of things for them.
Some people have figured it out for themselves. We have no way of knowing how many years it may have taken them to find out this method or how many different ways they have tried and failed.
Life is a learning process and why not try out some different methods. How else are you going to find out what works for you?
You may be in a different season of your life than them and probably in a different family set up.
Maybe they don’t have kids and you do or they have older kids who are more independent and you still have small children.
They could be empty nesters and enjoying retirement. You have not seen that they have downsized to a minimalist life and it works for them. Maybe they have nannies or pay for a housecleaner or outsource their admin duties. We may never know.
