Everyone talks about it but when is the best time to start organising?
There are amazing tips and tricks on how to organise and what you need to do it. They are all over the place. How to simplify the whole process and why you should do it.
So when is the best time to start? Right now.
Ok, after reading the post …
Don’t feel overwhelmed by having to do it all. You don’t need to tackle a whole house right now.
Small is always a good beginning. It doesn’t have to be perfect and will never be achieved in one day. Making the first step in climbing the stairs is the best way to begin. Enjoy the mini wins.
Start right now
Is there a drawer that you need to sort out. Make that a priority and get it done.
Pick a drawer and go for it. Have some fun. Empty the contents of the drawer out on the top of the unit or table and clean it out. Wipe it down.
Now look at the pile of things in front of you.
What was the drawer for anyway? Did you plan to use it as a stationery drawer? Sort out the things that should not be there. If you have small containers for the various items then it will make it easier to find them when you need them.
Have you decided to face the infamous junk drawer that you have? That would be a huge win if you completed that task. Yes, we all have at least one junk drawer and some of us have more or one in each room. Or is it just we have something in our hand and not sure where to put it. We may need it for something sometime in the future. Where do you put it so that you will remember where it is? Well, the junk drawer seems to be the answer.
Maybe you shouldn’t face that one first. That seems like it would take a lot of will power and concentration. Are you motivated enough for that yet?
Why not do the cutlery drawer first. You know it should only have cutlery in it. Cleaning it and sorting out the items is a fast win. Feel the motivation from an easy win.
It doesn't have to be a drawer
What about organising your bathroom and get rid of empty bottles or old make up that should be thrown out nothing is stopping you.
The objective is just starting. Making that first step, the baby step. Starting off small and feeling inspired by how good it feels to have a win. Let the feeling of achievement wash over you and keep going.
- Sorting out the paper work
- Collecting the bills
- Cleaning and organising your bedside table or drawers.
- Collecting all the chargers you have lying around the place. Keep only the ones that you need.
- Sort out your fridge and find what needs to used today.
- Go through your food cupboards and check the expiration dates.
- Note down any appointments or deadlines you have
The list could go on.
The best time to start organising is right now
We all lead busy lives and all have so much to do. Being organised is an ongoing activity especially if you have children. Doing some small tasks can help you get on top of things and be aware of all that needs to be done.
When you talk with older people, ones who have reached the impressive 80’s 90’s and beyond they will tell you some amazing things about their life experiences. I don’t think you will find anyone who will say that they have been organised their whole lives.
There are always situations that occur. Life has a way of happening. An illness can affect how the family works eg. It would be a real challenge to find anyone who will say that they had it all figured out all the time. Life has a way of changing and we have to adapt to it as best we can.
What works in one season of your life may not work in the next one.
Organising is an active thing and something that we all need to do on a daily basis without even realising it.
Why not look at it in a positive way and something that works for you.
It is not always possible to be organised and on top of things. However, being prepared is helpful.
Organising doesn’t have to be something negative and dreaded. It can be a positive and empowering thing as well.
Interpretation is key. The best time to start organising is right now.
